Synthetic Opioids, Other Substances, and Stimulants

Symposium Webinar
Friday, October 16, 2020 - 1:15 pm - 2:30 pm EDT

This webinar has already occurred. The recorded webinar is now available.

This presentation will first address the opioid crisis with a focus on synthetic opioids: what they are, how many of them exist, and how they are drivers of opioid overdose mortality. Second, it will describe the next wave of stimulant use. Third, it will address the category of “other substances,” which is a huge and frequently changing one, and suggest resources for understanding novel psychoactive substances (NPS) and new trends in drug use.

About the Symposium:

The theme of this year’s Department of Psychiatry Collaborative Care and Wellness Division Annual Symposium on Behavioral Health Integration is Treatment on Demand and the Ecosystem of Recovery: Helping Patients and Communities Recover from the Opioid Crisis. Throughout the month of October, presenters will discuss strategies for addressing the opioid epidemic with a focus on rural communities.
